Creative skills end up on Jug
When my niece’s 30th birthday surprise turned out to be a pottery painting session, I have to admit—it was slightly out of my comfort zone. Not helped by the fact my sister forgot to tell me, so there was absolutely no time to prepare.
With no time to overthink (probably a good thing), I picked a jug. I’ve always loved them—they’re both beautiful and useful, whether filled with milk, custard, flowers, or simply water.
Pattern and graphic design aren’t usually my thing, and I’m not the most patient painter, so I decided to keep it simple and draw instead. Far from perfect, it has the feel of Quentin Blake, but for a first attempt, I was really quite pleased. Based on my family, hopefully this will be filled with custard or flowers and sit on the kitchen table for many years to come. I managed to weave my great-grandmother’s words which I found in an old autograph book from the early 1900's. Just beautiful.

A big thank you to Claire and Naomi for their helpful tips along the way. Everyone created something so different and special.
If you’re ever in Bude, I’d definitely recommend a visit to The Kitchen Front down on the wharf—it’s such a lovely experience.
