About Sue
ABOUT Sue Read - Cornish Artist
I paint by this quote from Helen Frankenthaler ' Every canvas is a journey. All it's own. No rules. Let the picture lead you where it must go'
'Growing up on a farm close to the sea, nature is my life with salt water in my blood. I find solace in it, feel present and through weather and seasons, no day is ever the same. Riding the Cornish waves, exhilarated by the tingling of cold water, walking the winter beaches, or just gazing out over the ocean, the feelings and images become part of my paintings and life.
Capturing that glimpe with energetic gestures, weaving colour line and texture in layers to reflect the weather, light and spirit of place. Back in the studio I work further into the layers with inks, acrylic, charcoal, neocolour and sometimes oils. Using a palette knife, scrim cloth ,rubber scrapers and glazing techniques, the surface is further manipulated to create depth and interest . Paintings sit with me allowing time to contemplate, allowing space and time for refinement.
QUOTE: Sue's work invites the viewer to step into the landscape to 'feel' it' and bring you here.
